Ursies Wins Div 5!

Ursula 5

Ursula Hall's Division 5 team has finished the race in the lead! Pending the endpoint scrute and any penalties (though none are expected at this stage) they become the first team to win a division for Ursies since (apparently) 2013!

They've narrowly beaten out this year's division 7 team, who currently hold a commanding lead over the rest of the field and are expected to win their division fairly soon too.

Ursula 5 pulling ahead

In the race for second team into Endpoint, Ursula 5 appear to have been powering up the switchbacks on Majors Creek Mountain Road and are pulling into the southern entrance to Majors Creek now! However, they can't afford to dawdle through town, with Unilodge 5 and Ursula 7 neck and neck on the eastern approach… Read more.

Div 5 teams nearing Endpoint

It's looking like a potentially close race into Endpoint, with Ursula approaching along Majors Creek Mountain Road from the south and Trail Boys neck and neck with Unilodge along the eastern approach. Ursula has less distance to travel but still need to climb about 500m in the last stretches of the race, which might slow them down significantly. … Read more.

The second half of Div 5 and 4 sees colleges make the choice between a safe wide firetail (north), or the single-track "Shoebridge" to the west. The advantage of the track is that whilst the inital turnoff is hard to find, and a bit steep, it eventually flattens out for a long run to endpoint… Read more.

Missed turns and herd mentality

Three Div 5 teams appear to have gone the wrong way at a fork and then thought better of it. SexyDivXy, who were charging it up towards the Corn Trail checkpoint, missed the turnoff to head up to No Name Mountain Road but managed to correct losing only about 20 minutes. Wamburun 5, who initially looked like they were going to follow SexyDivXy up towards Corn Trail, have also turned around back on to Quark Pot Road, but have maybe lost closer to 30 minutes. Finally, Yukeembruk 5 initially turned up Bolaro Mountain Road back in the direction of drop site again after rejoining from Gully Road, but have turned around to chase behind the herd (but are seriously behind the main pack!)… Read more.

Finally the pack for Div 5 has broken up slightly, with Wamburun and SexyDivXy heading north up Hanns Rd while everyone else continues down Quark Pot Road / Firetrail. If they are committed to heading north, they will end up on the infamous Corn Trail: watch this space!… Read more.

We are now getting a significant number of teams leaving the Div 5 drop site, all so far taking the western path except for one: Yukeembruk 5. They've taken a strange path down Gully Road which doesn't lead anywhere useful and will also take them quite close to several private property exclusions if they're not careful!
