Earlier, I posted about the decision-point that the western set of Division 1 teams were approaching. All four of these teams have indeed taken their south-west route.
The Division 1 teams aren’t affected by the exclusion zone that forced the Division 3 teams to head through the Bendora Arboretum. From here, they’ll likely continue straight down Mt Franklin Road for quite some time. If you take a look at the Division 1 optimal route map, you’ll notice that this is effectively the worst possible route that a Division 1 team could have taken. Will it cost them?

The predictor is now up and running!, at the start will be super volatile and likely under estimate time of arrival just after drop (over estimate eventual overall average GAP (Gradient Adjusted Pace)) as typically teams start off hot/fast (see below graph of speeds of historical IB teams) with it taking time for teams to settle in a rhythm and on a route. It also assumes optimal navving which is probably unlikely, only accounting for the terrain and distance of the optimal route ahead. This means it will also not consider other factors that may slow a team down like a trail being overgrown… Read more.

To potentially confuse the Division 1 navigators, the Course Setters have included some red-herring exclusion zones in the south part of the course, including a zone which is very cheekily listed as excluded for Divisions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 (ie. everyone except Division 1).
