Being Lodge’s only team to enter Division 1 in a decade (since 2014!), this team is motivated to prove themselves in the bush!
Head nav Tommi will use his previous experience of successfully finishing div 2 twice, his unrelenting strength regardless of injury being a certainty throughout the race. Aided by returning nav Olivia, who has been racking in the kilometres and conquering mountains from the Warrumbungle’s to Kosciusko and everywhere in between to prepare. From their recent elevation and trekking training through Kyrgyzstan and Nepal respectively, the pair are determined to lead this team of elite bush-goers to endpoint in record time.
Hamish will be using his track star energy to scout, with his proven inability to tire and incredible stride length ensuring this team doesn’t drop the pace! Accompanied by first year powerhouse Isaac, who has his own team questioning where he finds his unshakeable determination, casually taking on Black Mountain as his easy run. The pair will be uncatchable as they create their cartographic masterpieces.
Above all else this team is intent on running their own race, consistently pushing each forward to cross the finish line as one unified force.

The predictor is now up and running!, at the start will be super volatile and likely under estimate time of arrival just after drop (over estimate eventual overall average GAP (Gradient Adjusted Pace)) as typically teams start off hot/fast (see below graph of speeds of historical IB teams) with it taking time for teams to settle in a rhythm and on a route. It also assumes optimal navving which is probably unlikely, only accounting for the terrain and distance of the optimal route ahead. This means it will also not consider other factors that may slow a team down like a trail being overgrown…

So far they’re all heading in the same direction, which also happens to be the optimal route. It’s a pretty condensed race and it is currently very difficult to tell who’s in the lead. I’m sure that over the next 100 kilometres they’ll spread out a little…

To potentially confuse the Division 1 navigators, the Course Setters have included some red-herring exclusion zones in the south part of the course, including a zone which is very cheekily listed as excluded for Divisions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 (ie. everyone except Division 1). Will this trick some teams into thinking they’re on the south half of the map?…

Located on Doctors Flat Rd, ~10km north-west of Wee Jasper. Div 1 with its 45 minutes of scouting time should almost certainly identify that they need to head south, for heading north can only lead them to the Wee Jasper Gin Distillery…

On the map they are thin red lines, and in IB they are the thin red line which if you cross you get disqualified/risk your safety…

This exclusion zone is just a sly attempt by the Race Directors/Course Setters to fool div 1 to think they are south of EP. No teams should go near here…
