Division 7’s drop is similar to Division 6’s…they just have more time, easier information to discern, less consequential initial route choices…yeah, I’d much rather get dropped here.
Navigators should identify that they have pine plantation to their east and steep vegetated terrain to their west. This information alone is already enough to narrow down possible Dropsite locations to just a handful of map regions. The track to the west along the spur should be another strong clue, as well as the significant hairpin bend to the south.
Hopefully Division 7 are able to identify their Dropsite with accuracy based on this information. Even if they cannot, they may correctly identify that they are in pine and will, therefore, have to head south over the course of the event. This belief may have led some Division 6 runners astray, but in Division 7’s case, any southern route is a good choice (so long as they don’t accidentally climb up to Tidbinbilla Range, but this is an unlikely mistake to make).
And with that, all of our teams have been dropped! The race is well underway!

Div 7's Drop is a bit of a classic on the edge of Pierce's Creek Pine Forest along Ash Rd. Teams should hopefully identify Tidbinbilla range to the west an relatively quickly head south and onto Oakey Creek Road before navigating the rest of course. Teams that head north should also hit Oakey Creek Road just about 2km earlier adding another ~ 15 minutes to their run. Hopefully no team heads up the firetrail to tidbinbilla ridge firetrail, as this will add ton ton of vert and likely over an hour of running time but at least they will get nice views of the sunrise from up there. … Read more.

The predictor is now up and running!, at the start will be super volatile and likely under estimate time of arrival just after drop (over estimate eventual overall average GAP (Gradient Adjusted Pace)) as typically teams start off hot/fast (see below graph of speeds of historical IB teams) with it taking time for teams to settle in a rhythm and on a route. It also assumes optimal navving which is probably unlikely, only accounting for the terrain and distance of the optimal route ahead.
