Johns is back down from Tidbinbilla range, and the jury’s still out

Extra climb, longer route, easier nav. Did it pay off for Johns Division 7?

It’s hard to say.

When Johns started their uphill trek, Fenner Division 7 were a hundred or so metres behind them. Now that Johns has rejoined the rest of Division 7 at the foot of the range, the Fenner team is more than 3.5 kilometres ahead - this is a significant lead.

Not that Johns is in a terrible position: Bruce, Wright, Lodge, and Wamburun all lag behind, and Ursula and Yukeembruk are mere metres ahead.

It’s possible that Johns could have kept pace with Fenner had they stayed down in Pierces Creek Forest. It’s also possible that they could have got lost with other Division 7 teams and ended up further behind. We’ll never know. The important thing is that Johns made a decision, backed it, and can continue on.
