Division 4 have two main options: to head north or south.
The southern route may initially seem more appealing, but this could be misleading. Though running along Mt Franklin Road will be easier for Division 4 teams to navigate, this is a steep, lengthy course that will tire teams out from the start.
This Dropsite was very carefully chosen. During the planning process, Inward Bound Committee members were taken to different potential Dropsite locations along this road and asked to plan a route to Endpoint. The Dropsite you’re seeing now was chosen because Committee members were evenly split between north and south routes at this point.

The predictor is now up and running!, at the start will be super volatile and likely under estimate time of arrival just after drop (over estimate eventual overall average GAP (Gradient Adjusted Pace)) as typically teams start off hot/fast (see below graph of speeds of historical IB teams) with it taking time for teams to settle in a rhythm and on a route. It also assumes optimal navving which is probably unlikely, only accounting for the terrain and distance of the optimal route ahead. This means it will also not consider other factors that may slow a team down like a trail being overgrown… Read more.
