Scrutineering update

Divisions 1 - 3 have now passed through scrutineering, with Division 4 just starting to arrive.

Here are some pictures to give you an insight into the scrutineering process.

When teams get their gear checked, they have to remove everything from their bags. This is so that volunteers can check that teams aren’t hiding any contraband items (either intentionally or accidentally).

They then go through the mandatory gear list and ensure that each runner has each required item. This process is very thorough and can take a decent amount of time.

What happens if a team is missing gear?

Each college prepares a spare equipment bag, so if their runners are missing an item, they can use items from this spare equipment bag without penalty. Otherwise, penalties apply.

Teams will check their gear countless times before race day. Whilst mistakes can always happen on the day, for the most part runners are usually very prepared.
