IB Live is the live tracking and commentary site for Inward Bound, the ANU student-run navigation race. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- If you make an account: your name, email address and the group you joined.
- If you comment: the name you give, your email address and your comment.
- If you donate or enter the raffle: your name, email address and the amount.
- Automatically, when you use the site: your IP address, the pages you request, your browser and device details, and a device fingerprint (a code worked out from your browser's settings that helps us recognise the same device again).
- Race tracking: GPS positions from the trackers teams carry during the race.
Why we collect it
- To run the race feed, the map, donations and the raffle.
- To moderate comments and donations before they go public.
- To stop abuse — finding and blocking people who post offensive or fake entries.
- To keep the site secure and working.
What's public
Once approved, the name and text of comments and the name on a donation appear on the live feed. A donation amount only appears once we've confirmed it. Team names and tracker positions are shown on the map. Your email address, IP address and device details are never shown publicly.
Who can see it
Inward Bound organisers with admin access. The site is hosted by Fly.io (in Sydney) and served through Cloudflare, who handle the data to run the site for us. We use Plausible for visitor counts; it doesn't use cookies or track you across sites. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising. We may share it with the ANU or police if we need to deal with serious abuse, or if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Request logs, IP addresses and device details are deleted after 90 days. Donation records are kept for our fundraising records. Accounts and comments stay until you ask us to remove them.
Cookies
We use a cookie to keep you logged in and one to recognise your browser so we can limit spam. Your browser also remembers a few display preferences. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
