Morning Question Time!
Sat 06:56. Posted by Toby Kitchen.
We got a few questions throughout the night! While I was fast asleep and the rest of the team tried to post in a manner than encouraged sleep, it's now time to answer all your questions! As always, please email me anything at communications.inwardbound@gmail.com
How are exclusion zones determined? (which divs they affect, why they're put where they are, etc)
Exclusion zones serve two purposes. Firstly, they are designed to stop the runners from going into private property or dangerous areas of the course. Second, they serve a strategic purpose to force more interesting route choices. The latter informs division-specific OOB zones, such as the one just west of Division 7's drop. Division 7 teams are forced to route around it, either going north or south, to make their route a bit interesting. However, teams that have just come out of the Corn Trail are allowed to take the direct route through -- the challenging nav is largely in the past for teams strong enough to survive this far.
What are the eligibility rules for participants in each college's team? Do they need to be a current resident or past resident or can you recruit from elsewhere?
Great question! The teams are overwhelmingly comprised of residents of their respective colleges but there are a few exceptions. Teams are allowed to enter up to four "ex-ressies" -- runners who have previously lived at that hall but don't currently. However, inter-hall transfers are absolutely allowed. Often, this happens in favour of Griffin Hall, as runners who leave campus to move to a sharehouse become eligible to join and run for Griffin (as 6 B&G ex-ressies have this year).
Any updates on Johns 1? It seems their position hasn't moved in nearly an hour.
They're on the Corn Trail, and apparently they passed through the checkpoint at about 5am. Don't be stressed if they (or any other team of your loved ones) hasn't pinged the tracker in a while -- Corn Trail is quite overgrown and it's pretty hard to get a GPS lock in there. Trust that they'll be OK and we'll find out what's happening soon enough!
